Léo Nannetti: from Flamengo U-20's goal to the Brazilian national team
Some stories explain why it is worth investing in youth development. The story of Léo Nannetti, a goalkeeper who came through Flamengo's youth ranks, is one of them. Wearing the Flamengo U-20 shirt, with the XBRI brand on the chest, he lived through decisive nights that took him, in a very short time, to training alongside Brazil's senior national team.
Two saves worth a world title
In the 2025 U-20 Intercontinental Cup final against Barcelona at the Maracanã, the match ended 2-2 and went to penalties. Nannetti saved two shots and was key to Flamengo's 6-5 shoot-out win, which made the club world champion in the category for the second time.
The national team calls
On March 24, 2026, just two days after playing the Libertadores U-20 final in Quito, the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) announced that Nannetti would join the training sessions of the senior national team coached by Carlo Ancelotti in Orlando, United States, as it prepared for friendlies against France and Croatia.
The goalkeeper was already in the country with Brazil's U-20 team, which was playing friendlies against Paraguay, and was called up to gain experience alongside the professionals.
On the road to the 2026 World Cup
Months later, although he was not in the 26-man squad, the CBF invited him to travel with the Brazilian delegation and follow the training sessions closely during the 2026 World Cup. An enormously valuable experience for a young player who, until very recently, was guarding the youth team's goal.
